If you have too many apples this fall season make this easy and healthy apple butter. It is made with 3 simple ingredients on the stovetop and is perfect to spread on some toast.
What is Apple Butter?
No there is no butter involved! Apple Butter is essentially a more concentrated version of apple sauce but makes a great addition to some toast, scones, and even alone, basically fall in a jar! If you have ever made apple sauce then you know how easy it is to make! While apple sauce really requires only one ingredient, to get all the fall flavors this recipe requires a few more ingredients like spices. However, I can guarantee it is still super easy to make and your house will smell so warm and cozy. This homemade apple butter has no added refined sugar and is sweetened with just a tad bit of maple syrup.
I know a lot of people do not have slow cookers so this recipe is great because it can be made on the stovetop. If you do have a slow cooker you can also opt to use it and there would be no stirring required. Since I am only using 3 medium-sized apples this is also a small-batch recipe that would be great for those that do not have a big family or live alone!

How to Make Apple Butter
- Start by dicing the apples into cubes. You can also leave the skin on if you prefer.
- Next, add all the ingredients into a medium-sized pot and turn on the stove to medium-low.
- Cover the pot and let that sit for 30 minutes stirring occasionally so that no apples stick to the bottom.
- Reduce the heat down to low, and continue to stir for another 30 minutes until very soft, brown, and thick.
- Then place the apples in a blender and blend until smooth with no chunks of apples.
- Transfer and store in an air-tight jar. Serve it with some toast or eat it alone!
FAQ
- Store this in an air-tight jar or for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
- If the apples are having a hard time blending save some of the water and add 1tbsp to help the apples blend smoother.
