10 minutes is all you need to make this chia seed jam. It is vegan, paleo, and sugar-free! Perfect on toast and healthier than store-bought!
It is no secret that PB&J is the ultimate combination when it comes to toasting but making homemade nut butter and jam to go on top is even more comforting. You might think it is time-consuming and you would much rather buy it in the store, but it seriously only takes less than 10 minutes, and it is so much healthier! Store-bought jelly can be filled with unnecessary added sugars but this one is only made with 3 ingredients and is only sweetened with just a drizzle of maple syrup (of course you can add more if needed).
This batch only makes enough to serve for 2, but you can certainly double the recipe as needed and store it in the fridge for the whole week!
What You Need To Make This Chia Seed Jam
- Blueberries- I used frozen blueberries, but you can also use fresh or another type of berry-like strawberry or raspberry.
- Chia Seeds- This helps to thicken the jam, as the chia seeds soak up the liquid.
- Maple Syrup- I used maple syrup to add a hint of sweetness, but you can also use honey. If you think your blueberries are sweet enough, omit this.
How To Make This Chia Seed Jam
- In a small saucepan, add the frozen blueberries on medium-low and let that simmer for 5 minutes. Mash with a fork to release the juices.
- Turn off the heat, and stir in the chia seeds and date syrup. Let that sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
- Once completely cooled, spread on top of toast and enjoy!
Tips
- If you are using fresh blueberries add about 1 tbsp to the saucepan when mashing the blueberries, it may be too dry.
- Double the recipe and store it in the fridge for the whole week!
- Add caramelized banana on top for extra sweetness!
