In 2017, I created @fitfan_ an outlet to document my fitness and food journey post competitive swimming. Everyone knew me as that petite and skinny Asian girl. As a swimmer my whole life, I never really focused on my diet nor did I feel the need to. I thought that since I was swimming for 3 hours a day, what I was eating would be burned off from all the cardio. I was eating whatever I wanted and whenever I wanted. There was no such thing as a “clean” & balanced diet.
Yes, it is true that swimmers have a massive appetite. For context, I would eat my whole entire packed lunch before lunchtime and I was still starving. Fast forward to 2017, I quit swimming right before going to college. At that point, my food and fitness mindset changed.
So, why @fitfan_? After swimming, I was lost and burnt out. I needed another way to stay active and something I genuinely enjoyed. I found the gym and began weightlifting. I was on a high. I loved going to the gym every day. Of course, at first, I was intimidated, but I soon learned that no one is truly looking at you. The gym to me is a place where I felt at peace, a place where I could relieve stress, and most importantly becoming a stronger version of myself. The gym is only a small part of having a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Food is another component that I worked on. I started to eat whole foods, eating plant-based, and mainly a vegan and paleo diet. I found that when I ate nutritious and whole foods I felt energized and crushed my workouts.
Fitfan is my positive outlet where I can share my healthy & simple recipes. On here, I will be sharing mostly paleo and vegan eats as well as random snippets of my life. Healthy food is so much more than salads and green juice! At the end of the day, food should be comforting, make you feel whole and happy.
